Prerequisites
The basic
eligibility requirement for being examined for dialysis
certification in Canada is the applicant’s active registration with
their Provincial association as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET),
Applied Science Technologist (AScT), or Certified Technician (CTech).
1.
The applicant shall have a
minimum of three years' related experience (two years if the
candidate is a graduate of a recognized post-secondary programme and
has served an
Applicants who are graduates of a recognized biomedical post-secondary program accredited by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB), and/or recognized by the Board, will be allowed to count a maximum of 1-yr internship period as part of the 3 year requirement.
2.
It is not necessary
that the applicant be currently employed by a hospital, but it is
required that the applicant has the above experience. 3. The applicant shall submit the names of at least 3 references for the dialysis technologist/technician certification. These references must be healthcare professionals who are familiar with the individual's competence in the following areas:
Technicial ability
Clinical experience interfacing with physicians
Clinical experience interfacing with nursing staff

Exam Format
The dialysis examination is multiple choice format with the value of each question awarded at 1, 2 or 3 points, depending on degree of difficulty. The critical and supporting competencies are represented in the examination. Approximately 120 questions will appear on the examination.

Exam Schedule
Examination schedules are customized and are set at a time and place that is mutually acceptable to the candidate and the examination proctor. Once a candidate has been accepted by the Board of Examiners to write the examination, s/he is given the contact information for a suitably qualified, volunteer, proctor located close to the candidate's workplace. It is the responsibility of the candidate to contact the proctor and make the necessary arrangements. |
Study Aids
A Study Guide is available that includes a suggested reading list and a "mini-exam". The mini-exam covers all sections of the typical examination and allows the prospective candidate to get a feel for the style and types of questions that would be included in the real examination. Answers to questions are included as a means of self testing your readiness to write the examination. The Study Guide is available for download under the documents page. |
